Trekking in Knoydart

Wilderness Trekking
Join a trek into the heart of the Knoydart wilderness
to experience a unique adventure.
|
There are few places in Scotland to compare to Knoydart.
This once thriving crofting area is now a remote wilderness
home to wildlife rarely seen nowadays in the Highlands - otters,
falcons, eagles and ptarmigan are regularly spotted here.
The lack of vehicle access to Knoydart means that although
you will see plenty of wildlife, you won't see plenty of people.
On the Knoydart trek we will divide our time between the
remote beauty of Barrisdale Bay and the charming village of
Inverie - home to mainland Britain's most remote pub. On the
way we will walk through some of Scotland's least visited
glens and hopefully climb the peninsula's three Munros.
Staying in comfortable B&B and bunkhouse accommodation
there will always be a hot bath or shower and a cosy fire
at night - what better way to relax after a day's walk?
"Well orchestrated and organised, superb
locations for accommodation. Brill time!" - Cath, Tadcaster.
Thanks to our guide's local knowledge; each day's walk can
be tailored to the conditions and wishes of the group.
This 6 day trek includes all food,
accommodation and transport and is limited to a maximum
group size of 8.
You will only need to carry your normal equipment
for a day on the hill as spare clothing etc. can be left in
the accommodation. The only exception to this is
day 3 when in addition to your normal walking gear you will
need to take spare clothing and washing kit for the stay in
Inverie.
The itinerary is flexible to allow for the influence of the
weather, but will be close to the following:
Day 1 - Travel by boat (15 mins) to Kinloch Hourn then follow
the lochside to Barrisdale. Great opportunity to see otters.
We will spend the night in one of the cosiest little private
bunkhouses in Scotland.
Day 2 - Walk Luinne Bheinn. One of the peninsula's Munros
offering fantastic views of the Rough Bounds of Knoydart.
Second night at Barrisdale.
Day 3 - Walk over Ladhar Bheinn (pronounced Larven) to Inverie.
The peninsula's highest Munro and one of Scotland's most majestic
mountains. A truly awesome day's walking from sea level to
1020m and back to sea level. Ladhar Bheinn's north corrie,
Coire Dhorcaill, is one of the most impressive sights anywhere
in Scotland. Eagles are regularly seen on this mountain. We
will spend the night in a very comfortable bunkhouse in Inverie,
just a short walk from Britain's most remote pub, The Old
Forge.
Day 4 - Perhaps an easier day after Ladhar Bheinn, a coastal
walk or one of the smaller mountains depending on the group's
wishes. Second night in Inverie.
Day 5 - Meal Bhuidhe. The peninsula's third Munro and its
most remote. A fantastic mountain with views out to the Outer
Hebrides on a clear day. A good walk with both a gradual ascent
and descent - perfect for this stage of the week. Third night
in Inverie.
Day 6 - Walk back to Loch Hourn to meet our transport back
to Kintail. We will walk about 8 miles through the beautiful
and peaceful Gleann an Dubh-Lochain to meet our boat at Barrisdale.
The price per person is £695.
"A wonderful experience. Thank you for opening
the door to the Highlands for me. I hope to "tappy lappy"
up many more Munros with you. P.S. The food was brill!!"
- Lesley, Wiltshire (but still a Geordie!)
